The selection included works on heritage, criticism, literature, philosophy, development, and entrepreneurship, showcasing the wide array of topics addressed by authors and publishers.

Local Heritage and Identity Explored

The Doha International Book Fair saw the launch of 'Geology of Qatar from a Heritage Perspective' by Sheikh Hassan bin Abdul Rahman Hassan Al Abd Al Thani. Katara Publishing House published the book, which documents traditional Qatari names for environmental elements, geological features, and climate phenomena. The publication covers aspects such as stones, sands, caves, fossils, and winds, providing a full look at Qatar's natural history through a cultural lens. Fossils documented in the book date back approximately 45 million years, offering a deep historical perspective on the region's geological evolution. 'Geology of Qatar from a Heritage Perspective' also includes a special chapter on the Empty Quarter and its relation to Qatar, further enriching its exploration of the country's unique geographical and cultural landscape. This work notes the deep connection between the Qatari people and their natural environment, preserving indigenous knowledge for future generations.

At the fair, Sheikha Dr. Al Anoud Ahmed Al Thani signed her book, 'Qatari Women and Sustainable Development: A Reading of Roles and Institutional Frameworks'. Al Jazeera Center for Studies published this work, which offers a scientific reading of the Qatari woman's journey and transformations in education, work, and community participation. The book delves into the significant strides made by Qatari women across various sectors, examining the institutional frameworks that have supported their evolving roles. It provides valuable insights into the social and economic empowerment of women in Qatar, noting their contributions to sustainable development. Additionally, the book 'The Diwan of Qatari Narration through the Eyes of East and West: Critical Readings of the Qatari Short Story' was noted, drawing attention to critical literary analysis. 'The Diwan of Qatari Narration through the Eyes of East and West: Critical Readings of the Qatari Short Story' discusses the development of the Qatari short story since the 1970s, tracing its evolution and impact within both local and international literary contexts. It examines how Qatari short stories have been perceived and interpreted by critics from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering a multifaceted understanding of the genre. Separately, the book 'Life with the Shadow: Don Juan and the Double' by Otto Rank was released at the fair. Rank's psychological theories, as presented in this translation, provide a profound exploration of human identity and the complexities of the psyche, inviting readers to reflect on their inner lives.
