Wadam Food Company (ودام الغذائية) and the Qatari Animal Welfare Society An'am (الجمعية القطرية للثروة الحيوانية أنعام) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance the marketing of local sheep. This agreement, officially sealed between the two entities, marks a significant collaborative effort aimed at bolstering the domestic livestock sector within Qatar. The partnership intends to streamline the distribution channels for domestically raised sheep, thereby contributing directly to national food security initiatives. The memorandum outlines a full framework for cooperation designed to benefit local farmers and ensure a steady supply of high-quality sheep products to the market. This strategic alliance shows a shared commitment to supporting Qatar's agricultural self-sufficiency.

Marketing Local Livestock

The memorandum specifically aims to market local livestock breeders' products in Qatar by displaying them prominently at Wadam Company's corrals. These dedicated corrals are strategically located at key facilities across the country, including Al Wakra Central Abattoir, Umm Salal Central Market, Al Sheehaniya Central Abattoir, and the Abu Nakhla sales yard. In addition to physical presence, the products will also be made conveniently available through the company's electronic application, ensuring accessibility to a wider consumer base. This multi-channel approach guarantees that these local products can be purchased year-round. A key aspect of this initiative involves An'am, which will coordinate and communicate directly with livestock breeders. This coordination is vital to ensure their products are supplied consistently and according to the required specifications and weights, maintaining quality and reliability for consumers. The goal is to effectively showcase and distribute the output of Qatar's livestock farmers.

Breed Development Initiative

Beyond marketing, the memorandum includes a vital provision for studying requests to purchase ewe breeding stock. This forward-looking initiative aims to facilitate the provision and sale of these ewes to breeders, contributing significantly to the development of flock breeds in Qatar. The Qatari Animal Welfare Society An'am will play a central role in coordinating these efforts, acting as the primary point of contact and facilitator. This strategic focus on breed development is intended to enhance the genetic quality and productivity of local sheep populations, leading to more strong and efficient livestock farming. The collaboration between Wadam Food Company and An'am seeks to strengthen the domestic livestock sector by improving the foundational breeding stock available to farmers. This aspect of the agreement shows a commitment to long-term agricultural sustainability and self-reliance within Qatar, ensuring a healthier and more productive future for the nation's sheep farms.

An'am's Role and Context

The Qatari Animal Welfare Society An'am (الجمعية القطرية للثروة الحيوانية أنعام) is dedicated to the welfare and development of animal resources and their breeders within Qatar. The society's objectives include actively contributing to the efficiency of production in the local animal resources sector, striving to optimize output and quality. An'am plays a key role as a vital link between livestock breeders and official state associations. This function facilitates essential communication and coordination within the broader agricultural landscape, ensuring that breeders' needs are met and policies are effectively implemented. The local production sector significantly contributes to covering the nation's red meat needs. This is achieved through various initiatives launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality, which have consistently supported citizens for 16 years. An'am's involvement in this MoU further solidifies its commitment to enhancing the local animal resources industry and ensuring food security for the country.
